Quick answer: in our fleet, a saloon takes 4 passengers with 2 large cases and 2 small bags, an MPV 4 passengers with 3 large cases and 2 small bags, and an executive car 4 passengers with 2 large cases and 1 small bag. An 8-seater minibus takes 8 passengers with 6 large cases and 8 small bags, and a 12-seater minibus 12 passengers with 12 large cases and 12 small bags. So 6 passengers with suitcases need an 8-seater minibus. If you are close to a limit, book the next size up.
Airport taxi luggage capacity is the detail most people guess at, and a car that is one case too small can mean a second car, a delay or a squeeze all the way to the terminal. This guide shows how much luggage fits in each of our vehicles, what counts as a large case or a small bag, and how to choose the right vehicle for your group. For airport transfers from Camberley and Surrey Heath, see our airport transfers.

What counts as a large case and a small bag?
- Large case: a full-size suitcase that goes in the aircraft hold, the kind you check in at the airport.
- Small bag: a cabin-size case, holdall, laptop bag or backpack.
- Bulky items: pushchairs, travel cots, car seats, golf bags, ski bags and other awkward shapes. Count each one as at least a large case and tell us about it when you book.
Handbags and coats travel with you in the car and do not need counting. If you have an unusually large case, say so, as extra-large cases take noticeably more boot space.
How many suitcases fit in a saloon taxi?
Our saloons take 2 large cases and 2 small bags with 4 passengers. That suits a couple or a small family on a short trip, or a business traveller. For a family of four with a large case each, a saloon is too small.
How many suitcases fit in an MPV taxi?
Our MPVs take 3 large cases and 2 small bags with 4 passengers. That is the usual choice for a couple with plenty of luggage or a family of four with holiday cases. For four people with a large case each and cabin bags, step up to the 8-seater minibus.
Minibus luggage capacity
Our 8-seater minibus takes 8 passengers with 6 large cases and 8 small bags, and our 12-seater minibus takes 12 passengers with 12 large cases and 12 small bags. A minibus is also the answer for a smaller group with a lot of luggage, such as a family with cruise cases or friends with golf bags. See our minibus taxi service.

Packing tips for an airport taxi
- Count bags the night before, including anything bulky, and check the count against your booking.
- Keep documents in a small bag, not in the boot: passports, tickets, phone chargers and medication.
- Use soft bags for extras. A holdall squeezes into a gap where a hard case will not.
- Remember the trip home. Shopping and gifts can mean more luggage on the return, so book the vehicle for the larger leg.
- Check your airline’s rules. Weight and size limits vary by airline, and the GOV.UK hand luggage rules cover what you can take in the cabin.
Cruise and long-stay luggage
Cruise and long-stay trips usually mean bigger cases and more of them. For two people with two large cases each, an MPV is a tighter fit than it looks, and an 8-seater minibus gives room to spare. Our Southampton cruise terminal guide covers cruise transfers.
